Root Canal Treatment (RCT)

Root Canal Treatment (RCT) is a specialized dental procedure designed to save a severely damaged or infected tooth and prevent the need for extraction. The treatment becomes necessary when the soft tissue inside the tooth, known as the pulp, becomes inflamed or infected due to deep decay, repeated dental procedures, cracks, chips, or injury. If left untreated, the infection can spread, causing severe pain, swelling, and even tooth loss.

During the procedure, the dentist carefully removes the infected or damaged pulp from the inner chambers of the tooth. The root canals are then thoroughly cleaned, disinfected, and shaped to eliminate bacteria and prevent further infection. Once cleaned, the canals are filled with a biocompatible material and sealed securely. In many cases, a dental crown is placed over the treated tooth to restore its strength, function, and appearance.

Modern root canal treatments are highly effective and are performed using advanced techniques and equipment, ensuring maximum comfort for patients. Contrary to common misconceptions, RCT is typically no more uncomfortable than a routine dental filling. The procedure not only relieves pain but also preserves the natural tooth structure, allowing patients to maintain proper chewing function and a healthy smile. With good oral hygiene and regular dental check-ups, a root canal-treated tooth can last for many years, contributing to long-term oral health and overall well-being.
